The Kaatza Historical Society was established in 1975 and opened the Kaatza Station Museum in the Town of Lake Cowichan in 1983. The Society collects, conserves, catalogues, researches, and interprets the history of the Cowichan Lake area, which includes the communities of Mesachie Lake, Honeymoon Bay, Youbou, Caycuse, Paldi, and the Town of Lake Cowichan. The Society is mandated to provide access to historical information for the community and visitors, including for researchers, journalists, school groups, authors, government officials, and community members. Since 2014, the Kaatza Station Museum has been home to the IWA Archive, which contains historical and administrative records of the national office for IWA Canada (formerly I.W.A. Western Canada Regional Council 1), as well as records produced by local union offices in Duncan, Vancouver, Courtenay, and Port Alberni.
