McLean Ave.-Pitt Avenue-Pitt River Road intersection and advising for information that the R.Rd intersection . ’ Engineering ‘Department is investigating the cost of various types of signs and lights at this intersection and that the School District will- shortly be considering further the control of pedestrians at the intersection, Alderman Meyer advised that in his opinion this was a very urgent problem indeed and should be resolved by the next Council meeting 4f£ at all possible. Alderman Ranger suggested that since the location in question was on a secondary high- way the installation of a pedestrian activated traffic light might be found to be advantageous and Alderman Mabbete stated that the Traffic Committee would investigate this possibility. August 20, 1973 /3. 2. That the Public Works Committee strongly request Department of Highways to share in the cost of installing a pedestrian traffic light at Tyner Street and Pitt River Road, since Pitt River Road is classified as a _ secondary highway; 3, That the Public Works Committee renew its efforts to have the School Board close the opening in the fence so that students will be encouraged to cross Pitt River Road at Tyner Street where it is safer. Qctober Ist, 1973 Moved by Alderman Mabbett: Seconded by Alderman Traboulay: ‘That as recommended in a report from the Public Works Committee, Octcber Ist, 1973, the pedestrian crosswalk at the McLean Avenue-Pitt River Road intersection be installed as shown, on Drawing No. 200-111; THAT ti:is installation be accompanied by a paved walkway, fenced on both sides, from the opening in the School fence to the edge of the travelled road surface; ‘ AND THAT the Department of Highways be requested to participate in the cost. of installing a pedestrian traffic light at McLean Avenue and Pitt River Road, rather than at Tyner Street and Pite River Road, as stated in a resolution passed at the August 20th, 1973 Council meeting. Carried. Prior to passage of the foregoing resolution, Alderman Ranger stated he would like to see the traffic island proposed to be installed at the imersection extended to stop cars making a left turn onto the parking lot of the store at the South-east corner of McLean Avenue and Alderman Mabbett agreed to have the Committee examine his suggestion.
