THEATRE Don’t forget that the Peninsula Players season’s opening play, Alan Ayckbourne’s comedy ‘Confusions’ continues this week, Nov. 25 to 28. Performances are 8 p.m. each night in St. Stephen’s Church Hall off Mt. Newton Cross Road. She will read from her acclaimed collection of short stories titled “Sick Pigeon” and from her forthcoming collection “Swing”, which will appear this spring from Arsenal Pulp Press: Brian Brett comes to us from Saltspring Island to read from his collection of short fiction “Tanganyika” and from his poetry. Books are available at Tanners, at the library and will be available for purchase at the reading. Under the direction of Sid - Clarke, each of the players in the company successfully assumes several roles, ranging from the pathetic to the farcical! The first scene, A Talk in the Park, features a domino-like effect as five people together in a park cach attempt to share their prob- lems with another person, who has no interest in listening. “1 might as well be talking to myself,” the characters all finally conclude. Every harried mother will appreciate Mother Figure, in which a full-time, house bound mother imposes her will on her neighbors using methods suitable for subduing two-year-olds. In response, the middle-aged neighbors gradually revert to sim- pering childhood. The battle of the sexes is played Peninsula artists are invited to enter exhibition Peninsula artists and artisans are invited to submit samples of their work to the 10th annual Look °93 regional juried art exhibition, which will be held from Feb. 18 to 28 next year. Chosen works will be displayed in a high-profile, downtown Vic- toria setting. Last year, 6,000 peo- ple visited the show at 1216 Doug- las Street. Entry forms for Look °93 are available from the Sidney and North Saanich Community Arts Council and from the community arts councils of greater Victoria, South Coast, Westem Communi- ties and the Gulf Islands. The funny side of fundraising is presented in Gosforth’s Fete, in which a small town event is plagued by bad weather, electrical failures, human wolf cubs and an admission by the village spinster that she is pregnant — which is unexpectedly broadcast over a four-acre field. Generally excellent perform- - ances by all cast members and smooth set changes, bridged by music between the scenes, add to the enjoyment of Ayckbourn’s wit. Performances continue until Nov. 28.
