TheReview Fair fun this weekend The gates open at 8 a.m. Satur- day for the final festive event of the summer: the 125th annual Saanich Fall Fair. The three-day fair has moved to a new location at 1528 Stelly’s Crossroad but has retained the same mix of farm animals, country crafts, concessions, games and midway to delight fairgoers of all ages, New this year is a pet show, to be held Monday starting at 1 p.m. on the fairgounds. The show has categories for all pets — dogs, cats, hamsters, rabbits, birds and others — provided the owners are aged 16 or younger. There will be plenty of enter- tainment, concessions and dis- plays. Since the permanent fair building will not be completed this year, many of the displays will be housed in large tents, giving the fair a true old-fashioned feeling. To keep traffic flowing smoothly to and from the new site, Stelly’s Crossroad from Wallace Drive to West Saanich Road will be desig- nated as a one-way only street, with traffic limited to travelling from east to west. Admission is $5 for adults, $2.50 for seniors and children. Children six and under and the disabled are admitted free. Parking is free. At Sidney Spit, a beach seine will be cast by biologist Jacquie Lee at 2:30 pm and a program presented on the ‘catch.’ The spit can be reached by a passenger ferry, which sails on the hour from the wharf at the foot of Beacon Ave. At 7:30 pm, a biologist will lead a 45 minute nature walk through McDonald Park.
