GLENN WERKMAN photo Police look at suspsicious «circumstances in fatal fire by Glenn Werkman The Review Two people are dead after an early-morning boat fire at Van Isle Marina on Harbour Road in Sid- ney Monday, RCMP said. Reported at about 5:20 a.m., the fire had completely engulfed a 40-foot power boat Bonnie Lass moored at the marina’s B Dock, Sidney RCMP Cpl. Vic Bowman said. Witness Murray MacKay told reporters he saw the flames and told a friend to call 9-1-1. Despite jumping into his clothes and run- ning to the boat, MacKay was ap” unable to help as flames shot high into the air. Sidney RCMP Sgt. Andy Rose- quist said Tuesday that police are looking at some suspicious cir- cumstances and are investigating further “but I won’t comment as to what they are.” Police Tuesday had positively identified the bodies of the two people on board and were taking the boat from the marina to a warehouse for further investiga- tion. : Both persons were in their mid 40s, Rosequist said. Names were not released pending notification of next of kin. Quick work by the Sidney vol- unteer fire department prevented the fire from spreading to the wharf or to neighboring boats, Bowman said. “It would have been more of a problem if the fire had spread to the wharf,” he said. : There was slight damage from heat to some boats moored nearby. Cause of death has yet to be determined as an investigation is underway by Sidney RCMP, the provincial coroner’s office, Sidney fire department and the office of the Fire Commissioner. “WHEN ONLY THE BEST WILL DO” “FASHIONS FOR HER” Ald: SUMMER SALE STOC.
