Business TheReview Wednesday, July 29,1992 — A27 ~ Cruise ships take tourists through islands a & A brand new product for tourists has been launched by Vancouver- based Pacific Cruises. Company spokesman Annette Thurmer says “the whole calm water concept is new in cruising.” Started this year, the new service will run trips between Port Sidney Marina and Cape Mudge on Qua- dra Island, home of the new abor- iginal resort Tsa-Kwa-Luten Lodge. The cruises, lasting six days and five nights, will run in both direc- tions. An 80-foot vessel, the MV Mal- ecite is capable of taking 44 passengers and will visit the San Juan Islands, the Gulf Islands, Cowichan Bay, Chemainus, Nanai- mo, Schooner Cove, Whaletown on Cortes Island and Quadra Island, with a shore excursion at each stop, according to the B.C. Ministry of Tourism. “Visitors will lear about abor- iginal legends and lore, and enjoy the abundance and variety of sea life, forests and ever-changing landscapes among the tangle of islands, fjords and magnificent mountains of the Pacific Coast,” said company representative Christine Murphy. Sailing dates are available until October 19 and the cost is $1,095 per person, based on double occu- pancy, including accommodation, all meals and shore excursions. Real estate up, but not past 90 Sales are up this year but they still do not top sales in 1990. According to the MLS (Multiple Listing Service) there were 744 transactions in Greater Victoria in June, compared to 717 last May. In 1990 there were 814 sales. Trans- actions this year totalled $139.7 million. Of these transactions 19 were in Sidney, 21 in Central Saanich and 18 in North Saanich. The average price in Sidney was $179,000, in Central Saanich $216,500, and in North Saanich $276,000. In Vic- toria city there were 61 transac- tions at an average price of $178,000. The greatest number of sales were in Saanich East with 119. The average price there was _ $225,000. Advice from Larry Brooks, pres- ident of the Victoria Real Estate Board to prospective sellers is to price competitively. “AS is often the case when the number of properties for sale increase, sellers become more competitive in their pricing. “Tt follows that when you are preparing to sell your home, price it realistically and objectively Tight from the start. This can be one of the most important factors in the quick sale of a home,” Brooks said. While theses Tigitoss include all types of residences the average price of a single family home in Greater Victoria as of June stood at $194,000.
