Peninsula residents are invited
- to mark Canada’s 125th birthday
by reaffirming their Canadian Citi-
zenship at a June 30 ceremony in
Tulista Park.

Those interested in participating
are asked to sent their name, phone
number and brief statement of 25
words or less explaining their
reasons for wanting to participate
in the ceremony to the Peninsula
Celebrations Society, Box 2352,
Sidney, V8L 3W6. The entry can
also be dropped off at Sidney
Town Hall, 2440 Sidney Avenue.
The deadline is June 20.

Organizers hope the reaffirma-
tion ceremony will lead Canadians
to reflect on their concept of
Canadian citizenship and to
express their commitment to Can-
ada.

Saanich-Gulf Islands M.-P: Lynn
Hunter will attend the ceremony to
present a certificate to participants.

Pathfinder Tad Letson of North
Saanich and Guide Leader Elaine
Eastman of North Saanich were
among a group of South Van-
couver Island Area Guiders who
presented a garden bench to the
Government House garden project
- May 25.

The bench was presented to the
Lieutenant-Governor’s wife Dor-
othy Lam, Honorary President of
Girl Guides of British Columbia.

Victoria North District Com-
missioner Olive Brown presented
the bench, accompanied by Louise
Kenwood of Vancouver, the deputy
provincial commissioner.

Following the presentation, the
group toured Government House.
