Budge and Adm. nich Peninsula branch of the Navy Martin cadets, under the direction League of Canada. JUNIOR SAILORS from the Admiral Budge and Admiral M cesses arin cadets spent last weekend aboard navy training vessels. of 11 officers, boarded two 75-foot Canadian Navy ships Friday for a cruise from Esquimalt to Pat Bay. Saturday, it was up early at 6:30 a.m. for a 7 a.m. breakfast before a departure back onto the water by 8:15 a.m. Two cadets, Able Cadet Lesley Hill and Ordinary Seaman Craig Johnson, left the training vessels in a rigid hull zodiac for a quick trip to the Capital City Yacht Club in Tsehum Harbour for a flag raising ceremony. The zodiac rescue boats were used as safety boats through- out the day and each cadet also spent time leaming to sail aboard small sail boats, with the coopera- tion of Small Boats Unit (Pacific). Throughout the weekend, the cadets were on duty 24-hours per day, Coutts said. A watch and station bill directed their movements, including shifts on watch station, fire station and chores. While on board the YAGs (the Navy training vessels), cadets practised a fire drill, including rigging hoses, did a steering gear breakdown drill, completed a man overboard drill, and took turns cooking for fellow cadets. The exercise concluded Sunday with arrival back in Esquimalt. ALL AT SEA and leaming the ee ropes are young members of the Navy League of Canada, who joined in a weekend exercise.
