News TheReview Wednesday; March 11,1992 — A110 by Cst. Jim Woolford Ceniral Saanich police Help arrives for victims with the impact of crime. Services: needs. The first National Multidisciplinary Conference on Victimiza- tion and Recovery was recently held in Victoria. The timing for the conference couldn’t have been better. The Municipality of Central Saanich has recently become a full member of the Greater Victoria Victim Services and the conference provided valuable insight about the program. The purpose of the Victim Service program is to ensure the victims receive information and practical assistance needed to deal - The Criminal Justice System is a complex system that on occasion neglects the rights and needs of victims. The victim assistance program has recognized these needs and has now become an integral part of the Judicial System. Two trained volunteers will be able to offer the following — information on the progress of the police investigation. — information on the Justice System. — help in applying for Criminal Injury Compensation. — assistance if someone is required to attend court as a witness: a viclim assistance worker will explain what will happen in court and provide information about times and dates; help will also be available in preparing a victim impact statement. — for victims of sexual assault, experienced trained people are available for special emotional and practical support a person The services available through Victim Services are diverse and highly specialized. The Central Saanich Police Department is proud to be associated with the program and hopes that the citizens of Central Saanich will find it a useful and worthwhile service. Church focuses on healthy family Being part of the best family in the world is something we all dream of, but few experience. Focusing on the family of God — the church — through a study course offered locally will enable participants to dramatically improve the quality of their family relationships within 50 days. . It’s at Sluggett Memorial Fel- lowship Baptist Church in Bren- twood Bay, where members are working for seven weeks on a unique 50-day study called, “The Family God Wants Us to Be: Your Prescription for Healthier Church Relationships.” Led by Rev. Don Reed, “The Family God Wants Us to Be” is a spiritual adventure created by Chapel of the Air Ministries, and is used every year by hundreds of churches all across North Amer- ica. Locally, it began two weeks ago and continues through Easter. The series will provide positive suggestions on how to build healt- hier relationships within the church family and also within nuclear families. If you’re interested in joining the adventure at Sluggett Memo- tial Fellowship Baptist Church, feel free to phone us at 652-3313. The church is located at 7008 West Saanich Road. Visitors are always welcome, especially during the 10:50 a.m. Sunday Worship Hour throughout the upcoming 50-Day Spiritual Adventure. ( LEGENDARY COUNTRY DINING | Luncheon Tues. - Fri.
