Community New labels on children’s books in the Sidney-North Saanich and Brentwood branches of the Van- couver Island Regional library will help children and parents find appropriate books. The color-coded labels define the reading level of each book. The seven classifications are JE, picture books for children under five; JS, books for beginning read- ers; JEE stories for children six to nine years; JE, stories for children nine to 12 years: JYA, stories for teen aged 13 and over; JEN, sim- ple non-fiction for children from pre-school age to nine years and JNE, non-fiction books for chil- dren nine to 14 years. Library staff recently re- classified and color-coded all of the children’s books in the library special labels introduced for children’s books under those seven definitions, A guide to the new system, Dynamite Reading: a guide for young people, is available in the library.
