The club has completed the Winter Long Distance, with the following final standings in the various divisions: Division A: Haytor, Paul Taylor; Border Reiver, Jamie Naismith; Gumboot, Gary Lait. Division B: Bongo, Gord How- ard; Tranquility, Larry Lepard; Pytheas, Don Walker. Division C: Erica, Dave Thorn- ley; Spectrum, Dave Lillingston; Pegasus VI, Mike Barge. Division D: Sleepy Hollow, Lynn Sutherland; Jo, Tim Lott; Acrobatic Rat, Rob Scott. In other Sidney-North Saanich news, the club has conducted two of the races in the Spang Around the Buoys series. The winners of these races were: Race I: Division A — Taylor’s Haytor; Division B — Lepard’s Tranquility; Division C — Hans Bulk and Antares; Division D — Sutherland’s Sleepy Hollow. Race II: Division A — Hayior; Division B — Howard’s Bongo; Division C — Antares; Division D — Sleepy Hollow. Each year there is a joint long distance race series held between two local clubs — the Sidney- North Saanich club and the Canoe Bay Sailing Club. Treachery, skippered by Alex Foley, moved into first place in the Standings by winning five of the six races he started. Flashdance, with skipper Larry McFadden, moved into a second- place tie with Breakaway after winning four races. The match racing resumes this weekend. The standings are: Treachery, eight points; Flashdance and Breakaway, seven points; Sleepy Hollow, five points; White Noise, four points; Devil, three points, Vital Spark, two points. The annual event will be held for the 25th time this year along the winding roads and wet, muddy trails of Central Saanich. To mark the occasion, the Penin- sula Traek and Field Club organiz- ers are presenting trophies to the 25th-place finisher in each of the many categories. “We thought it was a different way of celebrating it,” said run director Fiona Clarke. “It’s usually muddy and dirty, but it’s fun. We encourage as many people to come out as we can. We're trying to keep it as a fun run,” she said. The run, which is a stop on the Island Cross Country Series, is scheduled for Saturday, March 7. Last year, an untimely snowfall forced postponement until the fol- lowing weekend. There are age and ability cate- gories for everyone, from seniors and families to the serious runner.
