Formed to preserve Roberts Bay
as a bird sanctuary, a new citizens’
environmental group expects to
spread its wings and tackle other
issues in the forthcoming months.

The Citizens Coalition for Con-
servation (CCC) has been active
for over a year, working to con-
serve the bay and its marine envi-
ronment, said chairman Kerry Fin-
ley.

“Roberts Bay was what we were
focussing our attention on to begin
with,” he said: “It sort of devel-

The CCC wants to raise aware-
hess about the impact of human
actions and development on water-
fowl and the habitat and teach
youngsters about conserving the
site.

School and public interpretive
programs are planned, as are
shoreline cleanups.

The activities, including ahs
interpretive signs, are estimated to
cost $4,500. The CCC had hoped

to get a $1,500 contribution from
town council.

But when Ald. John Calder
made this motion in council last
month, he did not get a seconder.

Finley said the group still hopes
to receive $1,500 from Environ-
ment Canada, and raise the rest
itself.
