His newest project is helping
raise the $50 million required for a
concert hall in Edmonton. The
City of Edmonton, the province
and! supporters of the project have
decided’ to call the structure The
Francis Winspear Concert Hall.

The tribute_is one of a long list
of honors which Winspear has
received, mementos of which line
one wall of his Ardmore home.

Included are the Order of Can-
ada, a Human Relations Award
from the Canadian Council of
Christians and Jews, a Fellowship
in the London-based Royal
Society for the Encouragement of
Arts, Manufacturers and Com-
merce, a Centennial Medal
awarded by the Queen, an honor-
ary doctorate from the University
of Victoria and awards from the

province of Alberta, the City of
Edmonton and from business and
Service Organizations.

Mounted on the opposite wall
are photographs of Winspear’s
genealogical achievements,
including five grandchildren and
seven great-grandchildren.

“The production line is still in
operation,” he jokes.

Of all his accomplishments dur-
ing more than 50) years in busi-

nesses and community service,
Winspear is proudest of his work
at the University of Alberta which
developed the study of accounting
and business administration into
the most successful accounting
school in the country.

“Being a strong believer in evo-
lution, I think it is the function of
each of us to add something to
civilization during our life,” he
concludes.
