Date picked for Milk Run Organizers of the 1992 Milk Run have announced that this year’s event will be held April 22. : The event is a one-day prov- ince-wide run, walk or wheel covering three kilometres in which over 80,000 students from 200 secondary schools will participate. Entering its 14th year, the Milk Run is organized by BC School Sports, the governing body for school sports in the province, with the objective of promoting participation in physical activities and raising money for a worthwhile charity. This year’s recipient charity will be the B.C. Blind Sports and Recreation Association. Last year, the Milk Run raised almost $30,000 for the B.C Division of the Canadian Wheelchair Sport Association and the wheelchair basketball demonstration team that toured the province. New club for archers seis sights for year A contact number was inad- vertently omitted in a story last week on the formation of the SaanPenn Archers archery club (New archery club makes plans for season of shooting, The Review, Jan. 29). The club has held its first general meeting, and is plan- ning to shoot indoors at the Lions Hall on East Saanich Road, and outdoors across from Centennial Park. Amateurs and professionals are welcome to join the club, which is sanctioned by the B.C. Archery Association. It is being organized by Steve Southin, a competitive archer and instructor who will be offering classes through the club. For more information, call Southin at 652-5046. Pee Wees earn first with five wins at Jamboree It was a five-for-five sweep for the Peninsula Harvey’s Sporting Goods Pee Wee Intercity hockey team at the recent Powell River Jamboree. Peninsula came home with first place, winning all five games played during the Jamboree Jan. 24-26. The team opened Jan. 24 with a 2-0 win over Powell River Legion. The following day, Harvey’s beat Austin. twice by scores of 3-0 and 4-1. The final two games on Jan. 26° saw Peninsula beat Kerry Park 5-0 and Powell River Legion 5-1. Peninsula ended the tournament with an impressive 19 goals scored and only two against. “Our team played a very disci- plined style of hockey, taking few penalties, while our opponents played a more aggressive style,” said coach Karl Kaercher, noting his team had two penalties in three of the games to the opponents’ 22. “Outstanding goaltending by Dale Thom, strong defence and excellent forechecking by our for- wards were the keys to our wins,” he said. Peninsula won the most sports- manlike team award. The event, held Jan. 26, was an all-level meet with teams from across the province. In the Provincial A, 12 and over competition, Carla Willock, 12, won the bronze on the beam. She was 10th on the bars, 11th in the floor routine and 12th in vault, for an all-around placing of ninth. The club’s A team, which included Willock, placed second overall. In the Provincial B, 11 and under competition, Shivonne Egan, 10, was a member of the bronze medel-winning Falcon team. The Div. 7B White Pro Power Gotcha HtO in second The Gotcha HtO men’s volley- ball team is back near the top of the heap in the Lower Island Senior A Men’s League after action last week. Gotcha had been tied for first in the eight-team league, but had slipped slightly in recent weeks. However, winning three of four games against their top competi- tion has put Gotcha two points behind the league frontrunners. Gotcha HtO split with Far West Namdor 12-15, 15-11, and defeat- ed Nasty Boyz 15-13, 17-16. The two opponents now have 20 points in the league on 10 wins and six losses each. Gotcha is in second, with 12 wins against six defeats. Installations team tied the Central Saanich Firefighters 3-3. In Div 9, the Red Marigold Nursery team beat Prospect Lake 2-0, while the Blue Pacific Coast Savings squad blanked Island Shoe Place 1-0. Div. 10 McDonalds downed Prospect Lake 2-1.
