said the committee was formed in

of the increase for 1992, and the
full amount for 1993.

indemnity be $14,603 this year

Firemen didn’t damage hall — Chief

Claims that North Saanich vol-
unteer firemen damaged the Deep
Cove Community Hall during
practice are false, says chief Terry
Towle.

Responding to a report from
architect Jonathan Yardley on the
condition of the hall, Towle said
firemen protected the hall from
further vandalism by boarding the
doors and windows.

In his report, Yardley said dam-
age to the doors and windows of
the hall was inflicted during fire
fighting exercises.

But Towle denied any such exer-
cises had been done in the hall and
said Yardley had not contacted the
fire department before writing his
report.

Yardley said he was retained by
the Deep Cove Community Hall

tion of the hall and it was outside
his mandate to contact the fire
department.

However, Yardley said associa-
tion members told him about fire
department opposition to restora-
tion of the hall. es

The fire department maintains
restoration of the hall for use as a
community centre would hamper
department activities.

To resolve the problem, Yardley
said he sketched a possible site
plan, including parking, which he
felt would accommodate both the
community hall and the fire
department.

Towle said the proposal would
take a large chunk of the fire
department property and the bum
pad where fire fighting exercises
are practiced.

meeting Jan. 27.
