News TheReview Tuesday, December 24,1991 — A18 Municipal copy costs discourage participation A 25-cent per page charge for photocopying council reports is too high, North Saanich resident Ruth Jacox complained in a letter received at the Dec. 16 council meeting. Jacox noted only one copy of the recent draft report by transporta- tion consultant Derek Wild was available at municipal hall for the public to read. Residents wanting to study the report either had to read the 21 pages standing at the town hall counter or pay municipal staff 25 cents a page for a copy, Jacox said. “Local residents need to be encouraged to take a more active interest in their municipality and charging them a high rate for a copy of a report that their tax dollars funded is not the way,” Jacox said. She suggested residents be charged five cents a page for copies. Ald. Bill Gordon felt the charge was fair as staff time is involved in THE HOUSE DRESSING COUP A NY IN, Wishing all our valued Customers a Merry Merry Christmas anda Healthy Happy New Year! _| Pick up newsletter & 1992 Class Schedule in the store now. Mayor Maurice Chazottes said there is not enough demand for a coin-operated copy machine in the town hall, which would be one possible solution. Although less expensive copy- ing is available through local busi- nesses, Ald. Dee Bailin said the residents cannot take the originals away from the office. The 25-cent per page charge can be very expensive if a resident wants an entire report copied, she added. Municipal administrator Ron O’Genski said North Saanich charges the same as other munici- palities for photocopying.
