[Sar steep slopes spark Pender Park parking plea

Permission to temporarily park
on Pender Park Road when roads
are icy was requested by a Beau-
maris Place resident but turned
down by North Saanich council
Dec. 16.

Ina letter to council, Clarke had
asked for assurance that residents
of Beaumaris Place would not
have their vehicles towed away if
forced by icy roads to park on
Pender Park.

“This street (Beaumaris Place)
is much steeper than would be
allowed today. Last winter even a
four-wheel drive had difficulty

making it up the street,” David
Clarke explained:

However when Clarke parked on
Pender Park last winter, his truck
was towed as an abandoned car
following a complaint by a Pender
Park resident.

Although the towing was later
judged to be unwarranted and
Clarke’s towing fees were
refunded, Clarke said the return of
the money did not compensate for
the inconvenience of having his
truck towed.
