Community Tis the season for school concerts The most winsome performers on the Peninsula will be in the spotlight over the next two weeks as local schools present their annual Christmas concerts and other seasonal events. Brentwood Elementary holds a Christmas concert on Dec. 17, 18 and 19 at 7 pm. each night. Deep Cove Elementary holds Christmas family nights on Dec. 18 and 19 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Children from Durrance Ele- mentary will go Christmas carol- ing on Dec. 19. Also on Dec. 19, Greenglade Elementary students will present their Christmas concert from 7 to 8:30 p.m. McTavish Elementary has three events planned, the first of which occurred Dec. 3 when the school ‘choir performed at Glen Meadows Golf and Country Club. The choir will also perform at Summergate Village on Dec. 16 from 1 to 2 p.m. On Dec. 17, the school will host a Medieval Faire and open house from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. A Christmas concert will be held at Saanichton nes from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sansbury Elementary will hold a Christmas sing-a-long Starting at 1 pm. Dec. 18. Two Christmas concerts are planned at Sidney Elementary. The grade 4 and 5 students will per- form Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. and the primary students will perform Dec. 18 at 7 p.m. Performances are also planned at the two Peninsula Middle Continued on Page C10 - The tinsel and tree are going up— at both local libraries this week. On Friday, the Central Saanich Cultural Centre and Library is holding a Christmas Party from 1 to 5 p.m. Guests are invited to bring an ornament or two to help the Friends of the Library trim the tree in the centre lobby. Starting at 1:30 p.m., Tickles the Clown will entertain children aged three to five in the library with juggling and mime, stories and general clowning. Author and storyteller Joan Buchanan will read from her books and tell stories starting at 3 p.m. She is an accomplished teller of tales, having written her first story GOODIES OF CHRISTMAS PAST, these gingerbread houses were created by McTavish students Michelle Braun and Matthew Sparkes as part of their schoo! Christmas celebra- tion last year. This year the North Saanich school is planning a Medieval theme open house for Dec. 17, one of many special events occuring in local schools. She writes for both children and adults and conducts writing and storytelling workshops. Her visit is sponsored in part by the Canada Council. Her program is suitable for ele- mentary school age children how- ever people of all ages are wel- come to attend. Admission is free. On Saturday, Sidney-North Saa- nich Regional Library will host a tree-trimming party from 2 to 4 p.m. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library, the event will feature chil- dren’s entertainment by Tickles the Clown from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. and a performance of Christmas music by flautist Tamie Humphrey from Parkland Secondary School. Refresiments for children and adults will be served. Donations of stocking stuffers, food or toys for the Lions Review hamper fund will be collected.
