- Sidney singers spin whale tale

Sea Shanties, the Sidney based
group of salty old balladeers and
spinners of sea-going tales, will

_ Present their version of The Ballad

of Moby Dick this Sunday at the
Maritime Museum of B.C. in Bas-
tion Square.

Their riveting version of the
classic tale will be performed in
the museum gallery between 3
p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

First published in 1851, Mel-
ville’s Moby Dick tells the story of
a whaling captain obsessed with
the capture of a giant whale.

Sea Shanties re-tell the story

- with a mixture of verse and song.

The group, Jill King, Jake Gal-
braith and Bryon Thompson, spe-
cialize in performing sailor-made
ballads and sea shanties, songs
written to be sung at sea to
coordinate the hard work of run-
ning a sailing ship.

Some songs are sung without
accompaniment, others with gui-
tar, fiddle and concertina.
