PEMO’s general meeting is tomorrow night (Thursday) start- ing at 7:30 p.m. in Silver Threads on Resthaven Drive in Sidney. The program serves all three Peninsula municipalities but there. is a shortage of volunteers from Central Saanich, Reynolds said. With about $20,000 in grant money received in the past year, equipment is at the stage that training can begin in eamest. Reception centre team members ~ and radio operators are also sought. Fermies. North Saanich aldermen agreed Nov. 18 to send the letter. A copy will also be sent to Saanich North and the Islands MLA Clive Tan- ner. Some of the concems are noise, safety, air pollution, inconvenience to local drivers, children’s safety and lack of provision for public transit, Ald. Dee Bailin noted. Residents also asked for exact details on the plan for the Lands - End Road interchange, property acquisition, tree clearing and blasting. Ald. Edo Nyland suggested both new minister B.C. Ferries and highways make provision for bicycle riders on the ferries, through the terminal and on the highway. Cars are usually given priority over bicycles, he remarked! Ald. Brian Dunic suggested the Ministry be asked to install an information kiosk in the area to answer residents’ questions as constuction proceeds.
