Glover takes
masters draw

The Glen Meadows Masters
curlers have completed the first
nine-game draw of the season,
shaking out those early season
cobwebs to regain their old forms.

Bob Glover, with Cec McCul-
loch, Mac McKenzie and Gerry
Humphries, won all nine games to
total 18 points. They won the Red
Division and top score for the
draw.

Bill Gostick, with Keith
Laberge, Harold Mattison and
Lore Hutchinson, won their divi-
sion and second place overall with
16 points.

Sharing third place were the Ron
Dennys and Bob Barr rinks, with
14 point each.

The second draw has been
played, and a pre-Christmas Tur-
key shoot is scheduled for Dec. 20.

Season ends
with victories

The Parkland Panthers junior
boys’ volleyball team finished its
season with a flourish, but it

~@asn't enough to gain a playoff
position.

The team played its final league
matches of the season Nov. 14,
winning four and losing two.

The Panthers opened with two
wins over Stelly’s, by scores of
15-3, 15-11. S

“We pulled a major upset by
splitting with league-leading
Cedar Hill, winning the first 15-11
; and losing the second 15-9,” said

coach Lome Chan.

The Panthers also split with
Arbutus, winning the first 15-10
but losing an extremely close
second game 16-14.

Chan said it was a match the
team could have won.

¢-~ Despite the season-ending suc-
cess, Parkland narrowly missed
out on a playoff spot.

“We came up with a good effort.
It was the inconsistency that hurt
us” through the season, he said.

Houman Azar and Peter Carmi-
chael were Parkland’s most effec-
tive spikers Thursday, while Aaron
Gray had an excellent tourney
Setting, said Chan.
