A play about drinking drivers, produced by the Vic High Players, proved to be a highlight of the conference because it got to the heart of the matter, making it very real in the process. Alds. Dave Goulet and Bob Jones opposed the payment, as the two were under the impression he was to be paid a maximum of $500, as specified in an earlier motion by council. Goulet said council only author-.. ized spending $500 on the appointment of a consultant last December. However, council was told on Oct. 28 that Zonnenberg was not made aware of the maximum fee in writing. Mayor Marie Rosko said she probably discussed the fee with Zonnenberg, although there was no correspondence to him on it. Ald. Don Amos said Zonnen- berg charged for consultation and discussions when the $10-million interchange was proposed by the Highways Ministry for Beacon Avenue and the Pat Bay Highway. He charged for 10.5 hours work, at $100 per hour, Amos said. There was other work done on the Sidney, noted Amos. The overcharge, he said, did not appear to be Zonnenberg’s fault. Council defeated a motion to pay $500, then approved a $1,050 payment, with Goulet and Jones voting in opposition. Zonnenberg drafted four rough plans for alternate routes for the Pat Bay Highway at Sidney. These were sent to the Ministry of Trans- portation as alternatuve sugges- tions without a formal resolution of council. A common aspect of each is an interchange to be developed at McTavish Road. In three of the proposals, access to the highway from Beacon is to be closed. One suggested a freeway unde- rpass under airport lands, while others proposed small inter- changes for Ocean Avenue and Mills Road or- Henry Avenue. Rosko urged council to approve the payment, saying the four pro- posals “gave council credibility and showed leadership” to the government on the issue. sello sidney: HAIR SALON #7-9843 2nd St. Sidney (Behind Landmark Bldg.) 656-2321 PORT OF CALL We are very pleased to announce that OLGA SWEET is now a member of our expert staff.
