League celebrates anniversary The Sidney La Leche League celebrated its 15th year of opera- tion recently with a tea for former and current leaders and members. Since its inception, the local league has helped over 1,000 mothers breast feed their babies. Ten local women have been accredited as La Leche League leaders, able to conduct meetings on the benefits and management « of breast feeding. The league gives mothers a place to share their experiences, "ask questions and review scientific research on breastfeeding. “Human milk has been scientif- ically proven to be the best food for infants,” explains leader Kathy Watson. “Breast fed babies have a lower incidence of allergies, obesity and childhood illness. Breastfeeding is also economical and ecologically balanced,” she added. La Leche League is active in 76 countries, she said. The Sidney group meets on the first Thursday of each month at 10 a.m. and again-at 7:30 p.m: Nurs- ing babies are welcome. For more information, contact Watson at 656-7982.
