i _e Arts Unique art to be auctioned Sunday A limited edition etching by artist Robert Bateman of Saltspr- ing is one of the items which will be offered Sunday in a fundraising auction for the Sidney and North Saanich Community Arts Council. “Although Robert Bateman is from Saltspring, he kindly responded to our plea for help,” said arts council vice-president Betty Ott. The piece is one of 90 and framing was provided by the Peninsula Gallery. Other prominent local artists who have donated paintings include Myfawny Pavelic, Colin Graham, Chris Doman, Sheena Lott, Stephanie Steel, Helen Rogak, Elizabeth Kerfoot, Helen Butler, Herbert Siebner and Kay Radcliffe. Art books have been donated by Tanner’s Book and refreshments are being provided by Muffet and Louisa. “A wonderful donation of $1,000 was given by Dorothy Cox to help with the initial expenses,” Ott said. “The response of the artists in our community has been wonder- ful. All have donated their paint- ings,” Cox added. Hand crafted creations have also been donated, including pottery and weaving. There are also some variety items, such as golf lessons. Previews of the art work will be held Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. The auction starts at 2 p.m. Sunday. Auctioneer Ed Ford is donating his time to conduct the auction. The Sidney and North Saanich _Community Arts Council is a * non-profit organization founded to help coordinate and publicize the efforts of various artistic groups and individuals in the area who are involved in painting, sculpture, photography, writing, music, thea- tre and crafts.
