News Sidney administrator Geoff Logan is stepping down at the end of the month before changes rec- ommended in a review of Town Hall are implemented. Logan, 64, planned to retire on Sept. 30 next year, but he has been granted a leave of absence as of Oct. 31. Terms of his leave were not disclosed by Logan or Mayor Marie Rosko. “Tt did not originate with me,” Logan said. He said he did not plan to retire so soon. “My plan was to stay on until other events took place.” Logan, who has been admini- strator in Sidney for 22 years, will be replaced by a Town clerk and a Town administrator, Rosko said in a news release. Creating the two positions was recommended in a consultant’s draft report on the Town’s opera- tions. Last month, council received the ~ report from George Cuff and Associates, a company based in Edmonton. Council felt the town had grown and changed substantially, as had the role of administration and its range of activities, since the last in-depth review in 1978. “With the passage of time, it was felt that the organization and community had changed suffi- ciently to warrant a more current assessment,’ Rosko said in the release. She said dividing administrative functions between a clerk and administrator was recommended by Cuff as a way of responding to current and future growth. “J don’t agree with it,” said Logan, who has been doing both jobs. “I can’t see why they sud- denly decided to change now.” He wondered whether council felt he was not doing the job properly, but added nobody has been critical.
