COLWOOD Two female young offenders have been apprehended in Victoria in connection with two auto thefts in Sidney last month. According to Sidney RCMP, during the early moming hours of Sept. 26, a stolen Mazda 626 crashed info a residence in the Ornaments hot Central Saanich police, like other forces across the province, are having to deal with a rash of hood ornament thefts by youths wanting to wear the emblems as jewelry. Deputy Chief George Lawson said the thefts “seem to be a problem in every jurisdiction now. “It seems the hood emblem of any car is fair game for a lot of people.” An emblem was pried off a 1990 Honda Civic between 8 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 24 at the Saanichton elementary school. Lawson said police are investi- 10500 block of Resthaven Drive. The suspects fled the scene but returned to the Lands End Road residence from which they stole the first car to take a second, a Mazda 323, police said. Two youths were found in Vic- toria in the stolen car, and police are searching for a third. Charges of theft and leaving the scene of an accident are pending against the girls.
