Man fined ¢ on two sexual assault charges

A Peninsula man charged with
two counts of sexual assault
involving his granddaughter was
fined $300 per incident in Sidney
provincial court Sept. 26.

The man pleaded guilty to both

charges, which arose out of inci-
dents in the early to mid-1980s
when the girl was eight to 10 years
old. A court order prohibits publi-
cation of any information which
could identify the victim.

but inside Mason’s Exchange, Sidney’s first second-hand
store, the visitor was bombarded with an eclectic collection
of second-hand goods. Originally a barn, the Beacon
Avenue shop was converted fo a store and living quarters in
the early 1920s by Joe Mason. Mr. Mason, an electrician and
a plumber, repaired: appliances in the back while Mrs.
Mason ran the store. The building that housed Mason‘s
Exchange can still be seen today on Beacon Avenue
between Fiffh Street and Resthaven. Alfhough the store is
now. called Sidney Antiques and has more of an emphasis
on antiques than the Masons did, the shop has nof really
changed all fhat much — it still has a second-hand section

in the back.
