Continued from Page A6 ‘Delighiful’ book on James Island Editor: I have just read a most delightful little book entitled Looking Back on James Island written by Bea Bond of Sidney. This is an interesting story about the island in which Sidney played such an important part. In its many years of history it supplied the Allies with power for two world wars, when we had to defend ourselves against the ageressors. The book relates how this was done with so little tragedy and so much effort on the part of the many people who live and worked there. Thank you Bea for letting us, who did not know too much about James Island, learn more about that lovely island we see sitting off Sidney and so close to our shores. Thanks also to your late hus- band and his parents who played such a part in its long history. Muriel Gray Sidney Once if is lost itis gone forever Editor: Churchill said, “If history teaches us anything, it is that man does not lean from history.” Once again we are demonstrat- ing this truth. We see once very livable cities, now places of stress with peace and beauty destroyed by roads and more roads, conven- ience of the car coming first. We are in the very unique posi- tion of still being able to choose between crowded roads and a rural beautiful Island or to follow in the steps of so many places and lose it all to the almighty car. A case in point is the expansion of the ferry. The beautiful scene from the ferry will soon be dest- royed with ramps and overpasses to make it easier for more and more cars to use the highway more conveniently despite the fact that present plans make it more diffi- cult for emergency ambulances “Catch the Spirit of Change.” Join Clive TANINER and be- come a member of B.C.’s best choice - the New Liberal Party of British Columbia.
