Well-known Chinese artist exhibits in Sidney -

A well-known Chinese artist,
Xiaogang Zhu, will show his work
at the Blue Peter Gallery, 2270
abou Road, Sidney, this week-
end.

Entitled A Touch of the Orient,
the show will display Zhu’s
gouache paintings from 12 to 8
p.m. Friday to Sunday.

Zhu is a founder of the Neo-
Naturalism painting school at
Nanjing and a leader in that move-
ment. :

His work was featured on the:

infemational cultural exchange tel-

evision program, A New View of -

Fine Arts in China, which prem-
iered on Central China television
in December 1987.

Zhu has also written a book on
contemporary Chinese art, Color
Theory and its Application in Art
and Design.

He was an assistant professor of
painting, drawing, color and three-
dimensional design at Shanghai’s
Jiad Tong University before com-
ing to the United States on a

fellowship to do graduate work at

Radford University in Virginia.
Due to return home in May

1991, he was offered a five-year

extended visa by the United States

following the crackdown on stu- °

dent protesters in China.
Unable to return home to his
wife and son, he now lives in

- Washington State. His work is in

collections in Canada, the U.S.A.,
China and Scandinavia.
