1ST el os See eS TheReview Wednesday, August 7,1991 — AI7 Council noi told of change as meiers cui from airport parking North Saanich should have been consulted before short-term park- ing was eliminated from the Vic- toria Airport, Mayor Maurice Cha- zottes said Thursday. “The first we heard of it was from Ald. Bill Gordon when he went to airport and found all the metres hooded,” Chazottes said. Gordon complained he had to drive into long-term parking and then wait in line to exit the parking lot. The airport liaison committee was not consulted on the change, Chazottes said. “That really annoys me. I do resent not being consulted.” The municipality has since been advised the change is an experi- ment and that meter rates were about to be increased, so removal of the meters did not increase parking costs, Chazottes added. ~ NOW OPEN On July 22, council passed a motion regretting the decision to discontinue short term parking and the lack of consultation with North Saanich. The hooded meters have now been removed from the parking lot. “It seems the experiment is hardly a short-term one,” Cha- zottes said.
