ie News \* Nudist alert after assault “With the warm weather upon us, some persons feel compelled to worship the sun with skin only,” Central Saanich police Sgt. Chris Morrison said Monday. Historically, areas near Island View Regional Park are frequented by nude sunbathers and this sum- mer is no exception. Police recently received one complaint about an elderly gentle- men accosting a 19-year-old Vic- toria man on the beach north of the CRD park. Morison said the man came to the police office to file a report after falling asleep on the beach, clad in walking shorts, about 2:45 p-m. Wednesday. “He woke up to find an elderly gentleman, totally nude, touching his crotch,” Morrison said. The Victoria man responded by pun- ching the nudist in the nose and, believing he had broken the man’s nose, alerted police. Police have a suspect and will recommend public nudity charges and other related charges to the attorney general’s department, Morison said. Other complaints of nudity on the beach “will be investigated and will not be tolerated,” Morri- son said. Police require approval from the attomey general to proceed with public nudity charges but “we will seek that approval if offenders are . identified,” Morrison said. Police search for suspects Sidney RCMP are investigating two area break-ins in late June. Police say on June 24, at about 3 p-M., suspects entered a residence on Wain Road. They fled when the owners came home. A small amount of change was taken, police said. And June 28, between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. noon, thieves broke into a house in the 9500-block of Maryland Drive by kicking in the rear door, police said. A small amount of jewelry is missing, including two gold chains, gold earrings and a silver charm bracelet. Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to contact Sidney RCMP at 656-3931, or call Crime Stoppers. The perfect anniversary gift! Stefaniak anticipates receiving that approval sometime next week. “Until we have that, we cannot close the deal on the land,” he said. Borrowing approval to pur- chase the property has been received. The district is still planning to open the new school in September 1992, he said. “We're still shooting for that. Id put money on that nght now.” The school will replace the present Mt. Newton Middle School. Christmas 652-1188 However major weather prob- lems next winter could delay the estimated 12- to 14-month con- struction time.
