Police stopped Brown on Lands End Road and found a half-full, open can of beer in his vehicle. Chaperon found Brown guilty of impaired driving and fined him $300, in addition to suspending his licence for one year. Bike sale brings probation A 17-year-old youth who tried to sell a stolen bicycle was placed on three months probation in Sidney provincial court Thursday. Crown counsel Stephen Fudge said the youth was involved in trying to sell a $740 bicycle that was stolen from a Sidney bicycle shop by a store employee. Earlier, the youth had pleaded guilty to a break-and-enter offence and was serving nine months probation and doing 50 hours community service work on that charge, Fudge said. Defence lawyer Grant Warrington said the family has since moved from Sidney to Parksville and the youth has kept out of trouble since moving. Judge Lawrence Brahan placed the youth on three months probation consecutive to the present term of probation. The youth cannot be named because of regulations set out in the Young Offenders Act. The horse was spooked and $ began running down Wallace Drive, dragging the ladder with it, Sgt. Chris Morrison said. As the runaway horse passed a parked 1984 Mazda, the ladder hit the rear of the vehicle and tumed under the horse. The horse’s legs became tangled in the ladder’s Tungs, causing it to collapse in the ditch with a severe broken leg, Morrison said.
