Let’s Get Off Our Buts by John-Roger and Peter McWilliams . _{ Bantam. 496 pages. $25.00 7 As The Crow Fliesby Jeffery Archer HarperCollins. 4 Over the past months I've reviewed a number of books that would | make ideal Father's Day Presents. In the “self-help”line, there is The Father's Almanac - full of practical, witty, advice for today’s involved male parents. One of my favorites, Iron John: A Book About Men by the poet Robert Bly has been in ‘the 2nd spot on Tanner’s Best Seller list (non-fiction) for weeks; for any boater who dreams of quitting his job, selling the house, packing his family and sailing around the globe in a too-small boat there’s a paperback edition of Survive the Savage Sea by Dougal Robertson | gave my father a first edition for Father's Day in 1972!) Still in the Same Boat recounts one family’s odyssey where that dream becomes a semi-nightmare. Two more gift ideas: Do It: Let:s Get OE Our Buts is for anyone who ever said, “I want to be healther, but...”orlim concerned about the enviroment, but...”or"l want to be Rapala! but..."when used in a sentence, the authors say, BUT means “Ignore all the good- | sounding stuff that came before - here comes the truth.” sub-titled “A > guide to Living Your Dreams”this book (by the authors of Life 101) B has a lone quotation on how to “expand your comfort zone enough to include your dreams.” The quotations are often profound; the F psychobabble is not. In As the Crow Flies, mega-selling Jeffrey Archer again produces the sort of sprawlling family saga we've grown used to: this time it’s the rags-to-riches story of Charles Trumper, who learns his trade selling vegetables from his grandfathers pushcart, then rises to become the powerfull founder of London’s most elegant department store. It’s a thick, fast-paced novel; you don’t believe a word of it but you enjoy every minute. h DEERE} i . -SAANICHTON _— fF BEST SELLERS FICTION NON FICTION ]1 (7) Asthe Crow Flies Archer 1 (1) Lighthearted Everyday Cooking #12 (1) The Seerless of Kell Eddings Lindsay P13 (6) The PlainsofPassage uel 2 (2) IronJohn:A Book About Men Bly &4 (2) Possession Byatt 3 (3) Life After Death Harpur 15.
