& PONT ESIDNE WHO OWNS PORT SIDNEY MARINA The Port Sidney Marina is owned by a company. called Granville West Capital Corporation. Granville West is a small company based in Vancouver and Sidney. Mr. Kim Pullen, its president, formed Granville West Capital Corporation in 1989. Since 1989 Mr. Pullen has commit- ted Granville West to investing over $30 million directly into the Sidney area. He built and operates The Beechwood Village, a quality retirement-living vil- lage for seniors. he took over the Port Sidney Marina project in October 1989 and is currently preparing plans for a small waterfront hotel to be built in 1992. COMMITMENT TO SIDNEY: PORT SIDNEY MARINA Granville West took over the Port Sidney Marina project in October 1989. By March 1990 the first floats were in- stalled, by May 1990 the Marina was operational and by September 1990 the facility was completed: The concept for the Marina from the outset was a people place. Mr. Pullen wanted to provide a focal point for the Sidney and boating communities. This concept is manifested in the design of the Marina building and > docks. The walkways have been built to be wide and inviting, the pilings have been painted and decorated with hanging baskets, and there are no gates or fences surrounding the facility. There is a wa- terfront bistro opening in the Marina building in June, for those who enjoy a seaside lunch or a coffee and dessert in the evening. This Marina is the most beautiful and accessible Marina in the Pacific Northwest: this is no accident. PHASE II: PORT SIDNEY MARINA Granville West and Mr. Pullen are com- mitted to making Port Sidney a first class marine resort. The proposed expansion of the Marina will maintain the same high standards of quality which are currently evident in the Marina. The proposed expansion involves more boat slips — and NOTHING ELSE. Unlike other Mar- inas, the Port Sidney expansion will NOT include any unsightly covered moorage or work bays, nor any moorage for com- mercial fish boats or any other kind of marine traffic incompatible with the first class resort concept of the Marina. Garbage, recycling and waste are every- one’s concern. The Marina provides daily garbage collection for its guests and is implementing a recycling program. Beechwood Village has an active re- cycling program, and the Marina’s will be implemented along the same lines. Gran- ville West is installing a sewage pump out facility at the Marina. Surprising as it may seem, many Marinas do not provide this essential service. Granville West is concerned that the Marina be the most environmentally friendly marina on the coast. PHASE III: PORT SIDNEY MARINA Granville West is also planning a small five storey waterfront hotel as the third and final phase of the development of Port Sidney Resort. While June 17th’s Public Hearing is concerned soley with the expansion of the Marina, a descrip- tion of Granville West’s vision of Port Sidney Resort would be incomplete with- out mentioning the Hotel. The Hotel will be located on the vacant property between the Marina parking lot and the Sidney Museum, and will include approximately 96 rooms, a cafe, a full service dining room, meeting rooms and a convention and banquet facility which will accommodate up to 200 people. The concept for the Hotel is the same as for the Marina: it will be a people place with an emphasis on Outdoor Adventure packages. In addition to the activities at the Marina, the Hotel's expansion pro- gram would also include scuba diving instruction and excursions, bicycle tours through the Saanich Peninsula and Gulf Islands and sailing “cruise and learn” vacations. ON THE MOVE! Port Sidney Marina, the new marina located in Sidney’s town centre wishes to expand its existing facilities. In order to do so, it is first necessary that the Town of Sidney’s current zoning over the expansion area be amended to allow for marina use. The Town of Sidney is holding a Public Hearing regarding the proposed rezoning on June 17th at 7:30 p.m. at the Silver Threads Senior Citizens Centre, 10030 Resthaven Drive in Sidney. Many times the only people who attend public meetings are the vocal minority who are opposed to whatever proposition is being put forth. WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT! Without it the Expansion may not happen. If you like the Marina, and like the opportunities which the Marina presents to the Community, please come to the Public meeting and be counted! If you have never been to a Public Meeting, NOW is the time to start! Don’t let this opportunity for something special in Sidney be passed up!
