Although a provincial Ministry of Health report indicates the hos- pitals did not follow policy in awarding the contracts, the minis- try has not required the hospitals to re-tender the laundry contracts. Loss of the work represented by the contracts will cost 15 jobs at the Greater Victoria Hospital Society’s Fairfield plant, the union claims. The union also notes Vancouver Island Linen Supply is owned by Grahame Quakenbush, who is the brother-in-law of Saanich and the Islands MLA Mel Couvelier.
