KICS, the summer day camp program offered by the Central Saanich recreation department. Registration for the popular Kids in Central Saanich program began Monday at the municipal hall and continues until all spaces are filled. The program is open to children aged five to 10 years and costs $45 per week. Included are sports, crafts, field trips, nature walks, theatre, music, games and splash time in the Centennial Park wading pool. Starting July 2, the program is offered from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday to Friday until August 30. The summer Camp program is open to children aged five to 10 years. (in Sidney Centre) 655-1424 Last year over 160 children were enrolled in the program. Favorite activities included the team game Capture the Flag, British Bulldog, pool splash games, kick the can and the wind-up carnival, with its hanging donut-eating contest and other fun-filled challenges. Field trips were held to Elk Lake for swimming and mini-golf, to the fire and police station for safety tips and to Sealand and the wax museum. One field trip is held each week. Art and craft activities are also offered during the week, along with games and music. This year’s theme is environ- mental awareness. Children will join in nature walks, learn recy- cling tips and do crafts using recycled materials. The KICS program welcomes donations of plastic yogurt or ice- cream containers and any other items which could be used for crafts.
