funding for research and develop-
ment projects from the province’s
Technology B.C. program.

available through a competition.
Fourteen Vancouver Island compa-

nies and four UVic researchers

were selected from 175 applica-
tions.

Proposals were examined by the
volunteer peer review committees
of the Science Council of B.C. on
the basis of four criteria: scientific

$31,384 grant to allow the firm to

tory bugs as control agents for crop
pests.

Another Sidney company,
Micrologix International Ltd.,
received $77,438 and will develop
a test for antibodies generated in
the presence of a certain bacteria
that is harmful to humans.

In addition, Quester Tangent
Corp. of Sidney received $64,529
to develop software which can be
used to validate and edit water
depth data and enter it into geogra-
phic information databases.

“Our main fear coming from
Toronto to Vancouver Island was
we would not be able to get
supplies. ... We found we were able
to get good suppliers for virtually
everything,” said Peter.
