TheReview Wednesday, April 24,1991 — A10 Long range plan calls for rebuild of Sanscha A new hall on the Memorial Park property, but farther from the highway, would be the ideal solu- tion for Sanscha Hall, according to Memorial Park Society secretary Chuck Harvey. The society is trying to arrange a meeting with the Sidney and North Saanich mayors to discuss the future of the hall, which was spared from threatened demolition when the Ministry of Highways scrapped the proposed interchange at Beacon Avenue and the Pat Bay Highway. “I think the long-range plan, such as it is at the moment, is to build a new hall on the same property. It would cost an awful lot to do anything with this hall and we're still awfully close to the highway, ” Harvey said. He estimates it would cost $500,000 to upgrade the present hall, which was built in the 1950s. An upgrade would also not resolve the problems and contin- ued threat created by the hall’s proximity to the highway. “The Highways own more prop- erty than people realize,” Harvey said. The Pat Bay highway prop- erty line is within 20 feet of the back of the hall, he said: He expects the issue will be discussed at the Memorial Park Society's annual general meeting May 8.
