News Design work is proceeding on Sidney Pier Holdings’ third build- ing for its leased town land on the waterfront. Jim Burton, of Sidney Pier Holdings, is seeking amendments from the town to the company’s development permit so that work can begin right away. “We've got to get going now for next year,” he said on Thursday. “We're aiming for an opening on Apmil 1,” he said. The building will augment the two now on the leased space, and will add a restaurant and more retail space. ie) It is smaller than two previous: proposals, and includes a patio beside the restaurant and lands- caping on the north end, and further landscaping along the south side. Burton said the south end will be reserved for future development. The proposed one-storey, 8,000 Square-foot structure was sup- posed to be reviewed by the town’s advisory planning commission (APC) last week for recommenda- tion to council. Burton says he is hopeful the process doesn’t take too long. Assuming approval is given, he plans to have a foundation permit by May so that work can begin on the new foundation. Detailed design work would follow, with the goal to open for business before next Summer. Council sent the matter to the APC at its April 8 meeting, when Burton asked for a number of changes to his permit. In addition to the third building proposal, Sidney Pier Holdings is seeking approval to attach a solar- ium addition to Rumrunner Pub plus add a small vestibule to protect the north door during the winter. These items were also referred to the APC. Meanwhile, aldermen refused the company’s request to build a 700-square-foot patio made of paving stones adjacent to the west side of Pelicanos Restaurant on the Site. Council concurred with reports from Alan Cameron, building inspector, and Jonathan Kelly, superintendent of parks, that the green space should stay intact. /PENINSULA |” # GROOMING Professional Dog & Cat Grooming 20% OFF for SENIORS plus 20% OFF 2 or more animals April 24, 25, 26, 27 ONLY 1205B Verdier Ave. Brentwood Bay Shopping Centre 652-5294 ce) 2 LK eae! | MN TARIS WEONESDAY Ap 2 RIL 24 o7th ltt am TILL APRIL | A ’ 3 l 2 wr — : Pace | LADIES WEAR, : 652-5612 Ife bee : is a Zs SE N S ALL SALES SG & FINAL é STATIONERY & BOOK | CERAMIC VASES & oF Ass "BINDERY HAND BLOWN GLASS RACK - Fy VALUES UP TO $50.00 VALUES UP TO $100.00 1 [2 Price 1 [2 Price dee See ee CLAIRE BURKE POTTERY & ACCESSORIES TABLE 5 0 POTPOURRI BASKETS Ss ° NECKLA! ° a = ce Baces- PANTYHOSE off 1 /2 Price 1 P2 Price | SELECTION OF STERLING *4Q°? siiver veweury | TOWELS .
