Community TheReview Wednesday, April 17,1991 — A13 Notes and notation lead to musical gifide MUSIC APPRECIATION across the generations as Carl and Barb Liftle of Saanichton entertain grandchildren Jonathan and Leah. Local residents will be able to enjoy the couple‘s talents Saturday as part of A Gift of Music, a special fund-raising concert at Holy Trinity Anglican Church. The concert features eight performers and three centuries of musical hits with proceeds going to guide dogs for the blind, Operation Eyesight and local food banks. Admission is by Gonation. Written notes and musical notes will both be performed in a special fundraising concert Saturday at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 1319 Mills Road, North Saanich. Two pianists, two flautists, a cellist, a soprano and two narrators will present the music and the letters of master composers from the past three centuries. Handel, Haydn, Mozart and Faure themes will mix with Broad- way hits from Carousel, Fiddler on the Roof and The Sound of Music. Works by Arthur Benjamin and Marin Marais will also be fea- tured. There will be Cantorial chant from early Hebrew literature, a Mozart Agnus Dei, classical trios and piano duets, a Jamaican Rhumba and show tunes illustrat- ing changes in musical styles an traditions. Accenting the performances will be contemporary letters written by or about the composers. Featured are flautists Gregory Brown and Jennifer Smyth, cellist Ron Dann, Pianists Jill-Ann Sie- mens and Carl Little and soprano Barbara Little. Admission is by donation with money raised going to Operation Eyesight, guidedogs for the blind and the community food banks, under the church’s outreach pro- Coffee will be served in the parish hall following the concert.
