Community Ari develops e Art is essential for emotional health, according to art teacher Tine Andriessen Holmes of Bren- twood. She believes children need the emotional outlet of creation, through drawing, drama, writing or crafts, im order to express them- selves and grow into healthier people. “Its a vehicle to have healthy emotions,’ she said. “Children need the opportunity to be crea- tive, which will enhance their emotional life and their ability to learn.” She teaches children and adult’ art classes at a small studio she opened December 8 at 9732 First Street in Sidney. In honor of Youth Arts Week April 22 to 27, she will have a display of children’s art work in the studio from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday to Saturday. Visitors are welcome to visit the display. She feels children who have Opportunities for self-expression are better able to deal with often difficult situations, such as family break-up. Art can be therapeutic, she said. Born in the - Netherlands, she came to Canada with her family in 1952. She has taken drawing and painting classes at the Academie Julian and the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere in Paris. She studied portrait painting under Gene Ritchie Monahan, Karl Hagedom, Bill Dietrickson and Claire Fry of Minnesota.
