There will be a salt tang in the air when Dick Holdstock and Allan MacLeod breeze through the Deep Cove Folk gathering this Friday with their lively songs of the sea. The Califomia based duo have three records to their credit and 14 years’ of working together, singing shanties as they should be sung at the major maritime festivals throughout North America. Description resulis in fast arrest of suspect _A man wanted by at least two other police departments was arrested by Central Saanich police Sunday afternoon, thanks to an accurate description, deputy police Chief George Lawson said. A woman in the 8100-block Lochside Drive heard a noise and, upon investigating, found a man in the home’s laundry room, about 1:05 p.m. Sunday. The man, a 25-year-old former Ontario resident, told the home- owner he had heard a noise and came tO investigate, police said. The homeowner allowed the man to leave, then called police giving a complete description. A short time later police Cst. John Teague located the man on the west side of the Pat Bay Highway near Central Saanich Road, Law- son said. : “She was able to give us a very accurate description which helped the constables immensely,” Law- son said. Ricki Bertrand of no fixed address is facing charges of unlaw- fully being in a dwelling house, break and enter with intent and obstructing a police officer. Bertrand is also wanted by police in North Bay, Ont. and Red Deer, Alta. annual spring clean-up. GRIME |u| SFOPPERS Suzuki torched This week Crime Stoppers is asking the public’s help to solve an arson in Saanich. On Friday, Jan. 25, at 2:30 a.m.a 1986 Suzuki Samurai parked in the 5000-block Cordova Bay Road was set afire. The fire spread to a 17-foot boat which was parked alongside the vehicle and in turn damaged the nearby garage. A neighbor called the fire department after being avakened by someone honking an automo- bile horn. The total loss and dam- age was in excess of $23,000. Crime Stoppers wants to solve this arson and will pay up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest.
