The Peninsula Atom Rep Eagles closed out a successful hockey season by winning an international tournament in Tacoma, Wash. last weekend. The team finished the season with a record of 55 wins, 13 losses and two ties — after an exhausting 70 games . “We just had a fabulous year,” said Kosick. “We had a great group of 10- and 11-year-olds. “We've played the best Atom Rep teams in the province, and we've done great against every- one.” In the final game of the tourna- Sidney Tigers drop match The Sidney Tigers wound up on the tail end of a 50-12 score in Vancouver Lower Island Canadian Football pee wee action Sunday. The score was knotted at two at the midway point, but the Eagles exploded and went on to win 10-4. At the halfway mark, “it was anybody’s game,” said Kosick. But after getting ahead, the Wash- ington team seemed to deflate and the rout was on. “Our kids skated very well and played strong positional hockey,” said Kosick. The scores in preliminary games seem lopsided, notes the coach, “but in the actual play, our team just seemed to finish off scoring chances where the opposition didn’t.” The Eagles opened the touma- ment with a 10-3 victory over Aldergrove, the Fraser Valley champions. The score was 5-3 after two periods, but the Eagles netted five unanswered goals in the third. The line of Mark Campbell, Tommy Kosick and Blake Munroe [MIR. For coach Kosick, the tourna- ment win was a joyous occasion tinged with sadness because the season had ended. He says he will be moving to, Victoria from the Peninsula, so he said his farewells to “the greatest group of kids I’ve ever been involved with.” However, he notes next year the team has four returnees, who should provide a capable nucleus for the future.
