= LZ TALL IN THE SADDLE is a Japanese exchange student from kyoto, one of 30 students who enjoyed riding lessons at Withy Winales Stable in North Saanich on Sunday. Paddington seen alive in the wild Paddington the brown bear, one- time resident of the Wildlife Reserve of Western Canada, was spotted in the north country by a a fisherman recently. Reserve director Alex Matheson said he received a phone call from a charter fishing operator north of Vancouver Island who was out looking for a campsite. “He was muttering about and he went up to the beach to have lunch when he heard a sound next to him,” Matheson said. “He turned and this bloody brown bear had sat down next to him.” Described as having a cinnamon coat, with a slight hump on the back, the bear was unmistakably Paddington. “He’s looking fine and fat,” Matheson said. It’s nice that Pad- dington has survived this long but the thing that perturbs me is that he’s still too friendly.” The bear is about nine-years-old and is one of the many animals the reserve has helped over the years. April 20 is the day the reserve will hold its annual garage sale, raising fund for feed and other materials.
