Volksmarch set
for 10-k course

Anyone interested in taking
part in a guided Volksmarch
through Sidney is invited to
join members of Victoria’s
Garden City Wanderers, Satur-
day.

Due to start at 9:30 a.m. at
Sanscha Hall, the walk will
follow a 10-kilometer course
that will take participants
through some of the more sce-
nic parts of Sidney.

The family-oriented event is
non-competitive and is well-
suited to people of all ages, an
organizer said.

Registration will be held at 9
a.m. at Sanscha Hall. For more

Senior Games

Applications are now being
accepted for Peninsula seniors
who want to try out for the
1991 B.C. Seniors Games,
which will be held in Port
Coquitlam, Sept 4-7.

Teams will be selected in the
following activities: badminton,
bridge, carpet bowling, chess,
cribbage, cycling, darts, five-pin
bowling, floor curling and golf.

Also selections will be made
for horseshoe tossing, lawn
bowling, one-act plays, piping,
slow-pitch, snooker, swimming,
table-tennis, tennis, and track
and field.

Playoffs and tryouts will be
held up until the end of June.
So applicants must submit their
names to Zone 1 (South Island)
coordinators as Soon aS possi-
ble.

All applicant must be at least
55 years old. For more informa-

Patos Island race

The first overnight race of the
Sidney/North Saanich Yacht
Club’s 1991 season will get
underway, Saturday, a club spokes-
man said Monday.

Joanne Rhodes said the Patos
Island Race will be hotly-
contested and will act as a quali-
fier for the famous annual Swift-
sure Classic Race.

Due to start at 12 noon at the
foot of Beacon Avenue, the fleet of
competitors for the Patos Island

Two courses will take the boats
south through the Gulf Islands and
the American San Juan Islands.

Bigger boats will follow a 66-
mile long route, while the smaller

boats will sail a 43-mile course.

Harvey’s dominates Prospect Lake 5-0

The Peninsula Harvey’s Sport-
ing Goods Divisions 5B soccer
team earned a stunning 5-0 victory
over Prospect Lake, Saturday.

Team manager Ron Muir said
Harvey's played an aggressive
attacking game that keep the Pro-
spect Lake players pinned in their
own half during much of the
action.

The attacking flair of Harvey’s
striker Michael Hughes paid off
handsomely in the first half, with a
hat trick of goals to his credit.

Golf season starts

The Nine-Hole Division of
the Ardmore Ladies’ Golf Club
will start its 1991 season, Tues-
day.

This year’s captain of the
Nine-Hole Division is Jan Lyle,
while the vice-captain is Muriel
McIntyre and the secretary-
treasurer Pat Fisk.
