Top showing for amateur skaters Despite being short on compcti- tive experience, several Peninsula Figure Skating Club members did themselves proud in a major event, Feb. 9-10. Competing against 200 other skaters at the Lynn Hetherington Memorial competition in Camp- bell River, six Peninsula competi- tors placed highly, a club spokes- man said. Dennis Baggett earned top hon- ors for his club with a victory in the preliminary mens’ (nine-years- and-over) category, spokesperson Kathy Monette said. Turning in a shining perform- ance, Baggett was also judged the most artistic mens’ skater, Monette said. In Group B of the pre- preliminary ladies nine-and-over division Amy Simpson placed ninth, while Jennifer Neal placed 12th in Group C of the same category. Krista McKinnan also placed eighth in the preliminary ladies’ 10-and-over group.
