It’s held exclusively for Stelly’s Grade 12 students, Feb. 19, and this year the topic is the students’ own choice. - The first place contestant will receive a trip to Ottawa to take part in a leadership conference. The contestant placing second will attend a leadership confer- ence in Tacoma, Washington. Last year’s first place winner was Doug Helmerson, with Gina Gregory placing second. Sally Morgan, the teacher guiding the students in their preparation for the contest, advises Grade 11 students to sielly’s student to Ottawa contact her for information on next year’s competition. Grade 11 French immersion Student Melissa Kost has received the well-deserved honor of being accepted to the “Forum for Young Canadians 1991.” Kost will stay in Ottawa for the week of April 27th to May 4th. She will tour Ottawa and the Parliament Buildings, witness a question period and attend seminars. The purpose of this experience is to study the processes of government. When asked if there was anyone in particular she would like to speak to, Kost said, “T’ve always wanted to meet Jean Chretien, the leader of the Liberal Party.” Kost is interested in the fields of law and political science. This year’s Paris in the Spring trip has been canceled due to world situations and students will have trip fees returned. During the first semester Stelly’s had the privilege of having Gini Foley on staff. Thank you for bringing “dance-mania” to our school. Stelly’s is now in second semester classes, which began Jan. 31. War contingency Energy Minister Jack Davis said last week that British Columbia is prepared to accept the Interna- tional Energy Agency’s decision for a concerted plan to quell any panic and deal with energy short- ages if hostilities break out in the Persian Gulf. At a Paris meeting, the 21- country IEA Board decided that in case of war in the Gulf, members would implement plans to step up oil production, draw down eserves, shift fuel muse off oil, and encourage consumer effi- ciency and restraint.
