Junior B Eagles finally post some hockey victories A revitalized Peninsula Junior B Eagles hockey team posted two impressive wins last week in its bid for a playoff spot. Team manager Jim Townley said the Eagles edged the Saanich Braves 6-5 Wednesday after dump- ing Sooke 13-4 the night before. In Wednesday's showdown with their main rivals for a playoff spot, the Eagles launched an aggressive all-out offensive on Saanich that never let up throughout the game. “We led from the drop of the puck and never looked back,” Townley said. Sticking to their game plan and never easing up the pressure, the Eagles took a 3-1 lead in the first period that was extended to 5-2 by the end of the second. Knowing how crucial a victory could be to their playoff hopes, the Eagles fought hard, looking any- thing but the complacent team it has been lately. “We executed really well and our feet didn’t stop moving,” Townley said. Keeping possession of the puck for most of the game, the Eagles held Saanich at bay right until the end when the home team snatched back a couple of goals to narrow the deficit to 6-5. By beefing up the team with several midget-level players, Town- ley was able to keep his whole team fresh and hungry for victory. Contributions to the win came from Dustin Banyard, Clayton Postings, Darren Cairns and Shaun O'Neill. In a “do or die” game the night before the Eagles kept their playoff chances alive by thrashing Sooke in a completely one-sided game. After a “hap-hazard” first per- iod which saw Sooke take a 4-3 lead, Townley attacked his team’s lacklustre attitude with a fire and brimstone pep talk that got the * UPHOLSTERY * ANTIQUES | SERVICE 6655 TRUDEAU TERRACE desired results.
