I : News TheReview Wednesday, January 2, 1991_—_Al3 —— iy Meeting on port should be held by developer x winEa. 4 4 Sidney council Dec. 10 rescinded an earlier council’s motion to allow the use of the town hall for a public meeting into plans by Sidney Pier Holdings for a third building at the Sidney waterfront. Ald: John Calder said: ““There’s nothing wrong with the developer taking a’ proposal to the public for public input ... but it could be construed that we are in favor of that project.” Ald. Ted Daly agreed. “It should have been made clear that the town is not arranging the public viewing.” Calder said a letter should be sent to Sidney Pier that says coun- cil has no objection to a presenta- tion but the developers should arrange a public meeting them- selves. Sidney administrator Geoff Logan told council all the town was doing was making a facility available to Sidney Pier to hold a meeting. Sidney Pier Holdings wants public input to design proposals for a third building at the water- front, which could include plans for a civic/conference centre. The design proposal ties a pro- posed hotel development by Port Sidney Development Corporation (on land immediately south of the third building’s site) to the third building. No approval has been given for a hotel development. A deadline set out in Sidney Pier’s lease agree- ment with the Town for comple- tion of the third building has passed. The designated spokesman at Sidney Pier Holdings was away on vacation last week and could not be reached for comment.
