Woman considers suit after fall in hole A Sidney woman is considering legal action against the Town of Sidney after a manhole cover apparently flipped up, causing to her to fall hip-deep into a manhole near a gas station on Canora Road. Kathy Hanson said that at about 4:30 p.m., Nov. 19, she took her four-year-old son and a friend to Clair Downey’s service station on Canora Road for some drinks. While crossing a grassed area, Hanson stepped on the manhole cover, causing it to flip up. “When I stepped on it, the cover flipped and I went down in,” Hanson said. ““My left leg went right in, down to the lower part of my back. “When I fell in, somebody in an orange truck, who was just pulling out of Clair Downey’s, stopped but took off again after he saw that I was able to get out by myself,” she said. Hanson said the area was not marked with signs or other objects and that a person in the gas station called the Town of Sidney to notify them of the problem. “I was in a lot of pain but managed to go home by myself, although I hardly could walk,” she said. Hanson called the Town about the problem the next day and said she was told the Town could not take responsibility because they SALE DATES — JANUARY 2-6, 1991 ONLY.
